Eastside's New Champ Cori Gibbs

Eastsides New Champ

Cori Gibbs

Just a quick blog on the young Eastside boxer Cori Gibbs, the 23 year exciting young boxer fought last week at the Tudor Grange Leisure centre Solihull on a MGM promotion show. The 5 foot 8 orthodox fight took on Chris Adaway in a 8 x 3 minute round title fight for the British Challenge super Lightweight belt.

Cori won the match on points but unfortunately the column weren't there to give a full report.

We asked friend of the column and Cori’s Manager and trainer Jon Pegg how he thought his young fighter done? Jon informed me “It couldn’t have gone better for Cori, he got some good rounds under his belt.

His opponent said afterwards he's the best kid he's been in with.

He done everything we asked in corner a real solid mature performance that will make him grow as a fighter”.

Jon finished by saying “we will hopefully be getting him on the next live show”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Cori is one of the most exciting young fighters coming out of Eastside at the moment he is 9 and 0 and has just acquired his first belt as a pro. I watched him on the undercard of the bragging right show when he showcased his skills against Michael Mooney in a 4 rounder. After watching him then and after interviewing him for the column before that fight you can tell and see this confident young boxer will go far in the pro’s under the tutelage of Jon Pegg and the Eastside team. The Birmingham boxing column look forward to reviewing his next fight.
