Sam Eggington looking at European Title

Sam “The Savage” Eggington Birmingham’s WBC International welterweight Champion has been rumoured to be in private negotiations with European Boxing Unions title holder Ceferino Rodriguez over a potential European title fight.

Sam (19 – 3) won the WBC International title in October in an epic bout of boxing against fellow Brummie Frankie Gavin and is looking to keep the momentum going against Rodriguez. Rodriguez (24 – 1) won the EBU title in December on a split decision against Ahmed El Mousaoui. It is rumored that this bout could be held in Birmingham in February which would bring big time boxing back to Brum after the massive Bragging Rights show last October.

The Birmingham Boxing Column got in contact with Mr Eggington’s trainer/manager Jon Pegg to confirm the rumors Jon told the Column “We are just waiting for negotiations to be done, hopefully it will be over here and I think Sam will be to much for this Rodriguez”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

This would be a great step up for Eggington and a step closer to a world title, Jon Pegg has confirmed that they are in negotiations and hopefully it could be held in Birmingham giving Brum yet another big show to look forward to. The Birmingham boxing column will be looking forward to reporting on this potential fight or what ever “Team Savage” choose to do.
