Birmingham Boxing Hits the New Year running

Birmingham boxing hits the new year running with a bumper list of shows already lined up for February and March. Black Country Boxing promotions has already announced 2 massive shows for February with the first one on Saturday 10th at the Stadium Suite, Bescot stadium Walsall. It is the quarter finals of the BcB Midlands boxing series where 8 of the Midlands top super featherweights competing over 6 X 3 minute rounds to qualify for the semi finals which will be held later in the year. The 4 quarter finals will be Manny Zaber v Josh Baillie, Paul Holt v Kane Baker, Luke Jones v Jack Summers and Louis Fielding v India Sangha, the eventual winner will be crowned the super featherweight midlands area champion. I have also been informed Rachel Bell will be having her 2nd pro fight on the undercard of this highly anticipated show.

BcB's second show is called “Now Or Never” and will be held at the Genting Arena NEC on Friday 23rd February and will see Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin go for a IBO world welterweight title against Bethuel Ushona. The undercard for this show is massive and is set to showcase some of the best fighters from Birmingham and the Black Country with the likes of Sean Davis, Andrew Robinson, Kelcie Ball, Kyle Williams, IBO continental welterweight champion Craig Morris, Ricky Summers and Shakan Pitters. Also a match confirmed Matt Senn v Josh Burkes, what a great line up of talent with more to be confirmed.

This would already be a great start to Birmingham and Black Country boxing in 2018 but it don’t stop their. Wedged in-between the 2 BcB shows on Saturday 17th February is Tommy Owens Promotions first show of the year “Stormbringers” showcasing even more of the wealth of talent Birmingham and the Black Country have to offer. The show will be held at the Holte Suite Villa Park and it has a great line up consisting of Marcus French, Ryan Kelly, Tom Silcox, Carl Dickens, Lee Gunter, Idris Virgo and the one I’m really looking forward to seeing Showy Taylor. Here are 3 great shows just for February and I has also heard MTK Birmingham might be having a show at the start of February at Tudor Grange but that is yet to be confirmed.

The boxing continues in March with another Tommy Owens Promotions at the Holte Suite Villa On the 24th. The name of the show is “Rebellion” and will feature even more of Birmingham and the Black Country's best talent. On this show you will see Midlands area champ Charlie Williams, Karl Wiggins, Shaun Cooper, Ishmael Ellis, Ellis Blake and Lenny Evens. Another great line up at Villa Park, I have been to lots of Tommy Owens promotions and they are great nights with entertaining fights and a great atmosphere.

Finally to finish off March, a non professional show promoted by Fightden and Blood sweat & tears called “Ring Wars 3”. The show is sanctioned by the Semi-professional boxing federation and it’s main event is for the SPBF British Heavyweight title over 6 X 2 minute rounds contested by myself Dexter Hastings the current SPBF Midlands Heavyweight Champ against the current SPBF English Champ Neil Rigby. There will be a great under card with some of the top unlicensed boxers in Birmingham and the Black Country fighting on this show in 10oz gloves. The show will be at the H-SUITE Edgbaston on Friday 30th March contact myself or any of the fighters on the show for tickets. If you fancy going to any of the above shows please contact any of the fighters or Black country boxing or Tommy Owens Promotions. See posters for details.

Dexter's Thoughts

What a great start to 2018 with 4 great pro shows showcasing the best the Midlands have to offer. The first show of the year the Midlands boxing series was cancelled last year due to the trouble outside the Walsall town hall ending in the death of a young man. I have been looking forward to this show since it was announced last year as it puts the best against the best in a tournament for the Super featherweight Midlands area title.

The second BcB show is set to be a cracker with a big show at the Genting arena and a IBO world title on the line, Frankie Gavin gets probably his last chance at a world title and in my opinion as long as he gets his weight right he should be our second world champion in Birmingham. With a very strong undercard this is set to be another great night.

Tommy Owens Promotions shows down Villa park are always great shows with some cracking boxers fighting at their 2 events. With fighters like Marcus French and Midlands area champ Charlie Williams headlining the shows and the great undercards with Carl Dickens, Karly Gee and Ishmael Ellis to name a few these shows will be ones not to miss. The one fighter I am looking forward to seeing fight is Showy Taylor, I have interviewed him on a number of occasions and followed his short career (no pun intended) so far and I'm really looking forward to seeing him fight his first pro fight in his home town of Birmingham.

As for the final show on the list, Ring Wars 3, it is well worth a look, it may not be on the Professional level but is of a very high standard of boxing. So if you fancy seeing me win my 6th unlicensed title and becoming at the grand old age of 47 the SPBF Heavyweight champion come along, Ring Wars 3 are well worth a look.
