Great Midlands Title Fight Confirmed
It has been confirmed over the weekend that the super welterweight Midlands area title will be contested by Eastside's Ryan Kelly and Smoking Joe’s Kelcie Ball some time in 2018. But before these two Midlands warriors can get it on for the Midlands title they both have fights already organised in February.
Kelly (24) who has an impressive record of 9 wins out of 10 fights with his one defeat coming via points in a 10 rounder against Adam Harper for the Midlands title in 2016, Kelly is fighting on the Tommy Owens show "Stormbringers"at Villa park on the 17th February. Ball (26) has an equally impressive record as he is unbeaten in 8 fights, Ball is fighting on the BcB arena show “Now or Never” on the 23rd February.
No date has been fixed for this fight but is likely to be on a show in the summer.
I contacted Ryan and asked him how he felt about this exciting fight, he told me “Yeah I’m looking forward to the fight with Kelcie he’s a top lad and this is just business. It is going to be a seriously good fight which I’m confident I’ll come out on top of. I take my hat off to Kelcie for taking the fight so soon and I look forward to getting it on”.
I also contacted Ball and asked him his thoughts, the unbeaten fight told me “I’m concentrating on my upcoming fight February 23rd and putting on a great performance for all the people coming to support me. Then I will look forward to a hard long camp to fight for the Midlands. Myself and Ryan are pals and will continue to be after the fight but the best man will win on the night”.
Dexter’s Thoughts
I have known for a few weeks that this fight was in the making and have been dying to announce it. I have interviewed both boxers several times and rate both if them very highly, their movement and skill levels are fantastic and they both have a big following.
This is yet another exciting fight announced for this year and after watching these to young warriors spar each other I can tell you first hand this is going to be a cracker.
Kelly you would have to say is technical the better boxer and has already completed a hard 10 rounder against Harper. Ball is a great talent and is very hungry for success, he is improving with every fight. He is unbeaten and has also been tipped by the Birmingham Boxing Column as a boxer to watch for 2018.
Like the Cunningham, Robinson fight this is a 50, 50 fight, hand on heart I could not say who will win this fight. What I do know is that after watching these two boxers spar each other this is going to be a Midlands title fight not to miss.
