Step Up For Pinky
Alex Florence believes his next fight will be a test of his credentials as he goes in search of his fourth successive victory.
The 21-year-old will compete on BCB Promotions’ ‘The Class of 2018’ at Walsall Town Hall, Walsall, on Saturday, 3rd March, sponsored by Grosvenor Casino Walsall.
The unbeaten prospect has had three bouts cancelled at late notice and he told bcb-promotions.com he is desperate to kick-start his year with an exciting performance.
“It has been a frustrating period," he said. " I hadn’t boxed for a while and I feel like I was a bit too eager in my last fight so I will be looking to improve in this next one.
“It had been an absolute nightmare. I have been in shape and ready to fight for ages now so it has been annoying not to be able to.
“You have to be out fighting regularly at this stage in my career so it has been very frustrating not being able to do that recently.”
Florence will be up against the durable Chris Adaway who will be competing in his 56th professional contest. The Super-Lightweight believes his experienced opponent is just what he needs.
“Chris Adaway is livelier than most so I think he will help to bring out the best in me," he added."The opponents I have fought before go on the back foot when they are hurt whereas Adaway will keep busy against me.
“He is a tough lad and I will be expecting a hard night’s work. He is not a lad you are going to drop easily and he likes to come for a scrap so that will be good.
“Others just come to get paid and avoid getting hurt but Adaway will come and try and beat me.
“When you look at his losses, it is rare he loses by a landslide and he usually wins a couple of rounds.
“Being the away fighter constantly means he is always against it so to take rounds off people as an away fighter proves he is dangerous.
“For me this is another stepping stone. You have to perform well in these fights to prove you are ready for bigger things and I know I can show people I am capable.
“If Chris does pull me apart or land shots that he shouldn’t then it will show I still have a lot to learn.
“But I do think I will be above this barrier and I believe I won’t have any problems on the night.”
The Ledbury pugilist has impressed so far in his fledgling career but he is keen to focus on the job in hand and not to get carried away.
“I tend not to listen too much about what other people have to say about me.
“A lot of people will say I’m a good boxer and some others may disagree, but it’s a different story when you are in the ring with someone.
“I just plan to beat whoever Errol puts in front of me and when he says it is time to step up then we will.
“I don’t like to get ahead of myself and I just want to get the win here and show people how I have improved since my last fight.”
