Professional Boxer Alex Florence

Alex Florence is a professional boxer from Ledbury Herefordshire, the 21 year old who is nicknamed “Pinky” stands at 5 foot 7 and fights at super lightweight. The orthodox fighter had an impressive amateur career, Pinky recalled “I don’t know exactly how many fights I had as an amateur, I think roughly about 50 fights. I lost about 12 to 15 fights but most of them were to the same lads and I was a schoolboy at the time, I think I lost only one fight since I was 16”.

Florence also won a couple of West Midland, Midlands titles as an amateur he also won a central English open class title which he defended 3 times. Alex who boxes out of Ledbury gym and also Wednesbury gym has won 4 out of 4 professional fights, Pinky is trained by Joe Lock at Ledbury and Paul Mann at Wednesday.

I asked the young pro who his favourite boxer is and why? He told me “I liked boxers like Prince Naseem and Roy Jones, I loved the movement and the way they enjoyed the ring and hit from all sorts of angles”. Florence also said his favourite fight he has seen is Gatti v Ward he told the column I just love watching this fight” Alex has been around boxing clubs from around the age of 6 and had his first fight at the age of 11.

I then asked the unbeaten Pro what inspired you to take up boxing? Alex informed me “it is just a family thing, my dad got me and my brothers in the gym at a young age, I picked the boxing side of it up well and took it on from there”. My final question was, what has been your hardest fight? Florence told me I honestly don’t know off the top of my head, I’ve had a couple of hard fights in the amateurs mainly to do with my fitness as kid, I hated running”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

I was privileged to see Florence’s last fight at Walsall town hall on the BcB show “The Class of 2018”. This very talented young fighter took his opponent apart in the first round with a clinical display with the ref stopping the fight. I have to say I was very impressed and am looking forward to seeing him fight again very soon. From what I saw of this young fighter he is definitely one to look out for in the future.
