Laight hits 300 fights

Seasoned professional boxer Kristian Laight made history yesterday at the Alan Higgs centre Coventry where he equaled Peter Buckley’s record of 300 Professional fights. Laight put on a great display taking on Luke Beasley who has just started his boxing journey. As always “Mr Reliable” put the up and coming fighter through his paces winning the first round and it did looked like Laight may win fight number 300, but Beasley who was looking to keep his unbeaten record won the next three rounds to win the match. The result did not matter as Laight was awarded several gifts and awards to celebrate this great achievement.

Laight started his professional Boxing Journey when he made his debut against James Paisley at the Britannia international Hotel Canary Wharf losing on points. It took Laight who is now 38, five more fights to get his first win beating Jaz Virdee on points at the Moat House Peterborough. Laight from Nuneaton has won 12 fights in his 300 bouts and has drawn 9 times, but in 300 fights Laight has only been stopped 5 time which is impressive in itself.

Dexter's Thoughts

Laight has earned a place in the Birmingham Boxing Column's “Hall of Fame” and as I have said many times before he is a credit to the boxing industry. He is one of the great “Journey men” of Britain “Have Gloves will Fight” and always put the up and coming fighters through paces. Laight has hit 300 fights and he is not stopping there as I have already seen on his boxrec that he is scheduled to be fighting September 8th at York Hall Bethnal Green where he will break Peter Buckley’s record for most professional fights, but I’m sure if his manager Job Pegg offers him a fight before that “Mr Reliable” will be making history sooner than later.

The Birmingham Boxing Column have nothing but respect and admiration for Laight and what he has done so far in boxing.

Laight is one of the back bones of British boxing and is a credit to the boxing industry.
