Ijaz Ahmed is in a confident mood ahead of his WBO European and IBF European super-flyweight showdown with Kaisy Khademi this weekend. The former Midlands Area flyweight champion takes on the WBO European Champion live on BT Sport with the vacant IBF European super-flyweight title also now up for grabs. The fight was originally slated for November but an injury to Khademi forced the postponement. Ahmed has been out of action since losing in a challenge for the vacant WBO European flyweight title to Harvey Horn in November with Khademi being inactive since he won a unanimous decision against Pedro Matos for the WBO European crown way back in December 2019. Whilst Khademi (8-0) is a highly regarded prospect, Ahmed believes he has the skills to cause an upset.
“Camp has been exhausting,” Ahmed told bcb-promotions.com. “I’ve stayed in camp since the original date but it feels like the fight has been on and off like a light switch!
“Hopefully everything goes to plan this time and we get the fight done. I have been sparring with top elite-level amateur boxers who have similar style and mimicking the style of my opponent.
“It’s fight week now and I’m very happy the fight is happening but hope Allah has it in His plans without any hiccups. We have been working on a game plan that I am confident will bring the titles home with me.”
