Hot Prospect Ben Collins had a bad day at the office after suffering the first defeat of his professional career at the BcB show ‘Summer Showdown’ in Dudley (19.7.24). The twenty-year-old from Stourbridge was taking on a very game opponent in Patryk Polasik (30) from Poland. The contest was scheduled for four three-minute rounds and was the main event on the show. Collins weighed in twelve stone eleven with Polasik coming in twelve stone seven in a cruiserweight contest with ‘A' star referee Keven Parker reffing.
A steady start by Collins who grew into the first round using his jab well and getting some good backhands off, Polasik started brightly and had some joy landing some nice left hooks but Collins edged the first round. Polasik kept looking to land a big left hook in the second but Collins was slipping out of the way well and landing some nice counters of his own.
Polasik came out fast in the third and landed some of the big left hook he had been looking for pushing Collins back with some intense attacks. Collins stayed calm and came back with some good shots of his own but would give hive this round to Polasik. Polasik had grown in confidence from the last round and came out in the final round with some fast attacks landing some great combinations, Collins battled back hard but Polasik won this round on shots landed and work rate.
Keven Parker scored the fight 49 - 38 Polasik, I had it 38 – 38 draw.
Dexter’s Thoughts
This was a hard night for Collins as he was handed his first defeat in his professional career, I have to say he didn’t look himself and seemed very flat in the ring which encouraged Polasik to go for it. Collins is one of the Hottest prospects to come out of the Midlands recently and has already secured a Queensberry promotions contract, this defeat could be a blessing as now to ‘0’ has gone and he learns from this defeat I think he can still be contesting from a British title in the next few years. Collins is a very talented fighter and just had a bad day at the office but can 100% learn from this and continue to have a great career.
