Birmingham’s Kane Baker is set to roll the dice again in a English Super Featherweight eliminator in his hometown of Birmingham. ‘The boxing fan with a license’ has been given the opportunity on the undercard of the Galal Yafai against Tommy Frank contest which will be streamed live on DAZN at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on 19th August 2023. Baker (33) will be taking on Twenty-seven-year-old unbeaten Matchroom Hot prospect Jordan Flynn in a ten-round contest. Baker has already taken on Flynn back in April on a Matchroom show in London losing the eight-round contest on points. Baker's record stands at nineteen wins and one draw out of thirty contests winning a Midlands area Lightweight title on the way. Flynn has won all nine of his nine fights with one bringing over four rounds seven over six and his last contest over eight.
I managed to catch up with Kane and ask him a few questions, I asked the inspirational fighter how he felt when he was given the news. He told me “I was absolutely buzzing, I have known for a couple of weeks now, but couldn’t say anything until released today. So, buzzing all over again to see my name on a Matchroom card and in Birmingham is a dream, I find it unbelievable”. Baker continued “For anyone out there struggling in their life with dreams that seem a million miles away like mine did, don’t ever stop grinding because they can come true”. I then asked him about his training he said “Training is going well and thanks to my sponsors County Clean and Nitrous Completions I won’t be delivering battered sausages the week before this time. I’m full-time and ready to roll that fackkking dice”
As we chatted I asked the ‘gambler' for a prediction. He confidently said, “I predict I will walk out of Birmingham a proud winner who whatever it took I walked through fighting”. Kane continued “I’m not looking past this fight this is my dream and I need to put this and Flynn to bed, it’s an English eliminator so next will be the English title”. Baker said, “It’s going to be a great night in Birmingham, and all my boxing friends and family I want to share this with. So, get in touch for tickets, and let's show Matchroom and the boxing world how we do in Birmingham”.
Dexter’s Thoughts
I have a lot of time for Kane he has come from the unlicensed scene and has learned his craft on the job. He has rocked the direct number of times and his defeats have all cane on the road against some of the best top prospects around and has learned in every one of them. He is not going into this fight as a favorite but has the experience and determination to beat Flynn and upset the apple cart. I can see him winning this but whatever happens, this will be another great story in his boxing journey and I’m looking forward to seeing him fight again in Brum.
