Tipton’s Conor Baker took his professional record to three without defeat at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham (12.04.24). The twenty-seven-year-old super lightweight who last fought in December of 2023 was taking on the very experienced journeyman Naeem Ali in a four-round contest. Ali (28) from Blackburn was having his one hundredth and twenty sixth contest and weighed in nine stone ten with Baker coming in nine stone five with Ryan Churchill refereeing.
Good start by Baker who used his jab well to dictate the pace of the first round going the head and body well. Baker continued his good work in the second banging in nice combinations to Ali’s head and body, Ali covered up well with Baker winning the round with ease.
Ali started to let his hands go in the third which made Baker step up the pace even more, landing good shots and heavy combinations. Ali went on the run in the final round as Baker looked to finish strong, Ali had some joy in the middle of the round and finished well and just edged the round.
Ref Ryan Churchill scored it 39 to 37 to Baker I had it the same.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Great performance by Baker who took his record to three without defeat, he is showcasing some great boxing skills and is putting together some stylish combinations. He has got a good style and is definitely looking like he will be a contender for a Midlands title in four or five fights time. He has impressed me every time I have watched him box and I look forward to him fighting again soon.
