Wolverhampton’s Kirsty Bavington claimed victory in a cracking contest at the H-Suite Edgbaston (16.02.24) on the first Black Country Boxing Promotion of the year. The show was called Collision Course with the main event being a ten-round Welterweight Midlands area contest between James Scarrots and Jamie Stuart. Bavington whose record stood at seven wins and two draws in fourteen contests was taking on twenty-six-year-old while Tereza Dvorakova from the Czech Republic in a six two-minute round contest. Bavington weighed in ten stone one with Dvorakova came in ten stone dead with Chris Dean reffing.
Bavington came out strong in the first and let some cracking combinations off pushing Dvorakova back for the whole of the round. Bavington continued to press in the second but Dvorakova showed a bit more composure landing some nice shots. Bavington continued to press and had joy landing a big right hand near the end knocking Dvorakova back.
Dvorakova asked some questions in the third round using her jab well and landing some nice back hands, Bavington continued to plow forward and bullied Dvorakova and just out worked her opponent.
Bavington continued to press in the fourth round as Dvorakova moved well using her jab, Bavington got caught a few times as she stepped in but edged the round. The fifth was a very competitive round as both fighters landed good shots, very close rounds could not split them. Cracking final round as both fighters went for it, Dvorakova countered well but Bavington was relentless coming forward landing shots as both fighters emptied there tanks.
Referee Chris Dean scored it 59 to 55 Bavington, I had it 60 to 55 to Bavington.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Bavington put on a very impressive performance against a opponent who came to win. Bavington showed the work rate of a champion with Dvorakova having her moments and growing into the contest. Bavington pressed hard and didn’t take a step but when she moves back up to championship level this may cause a problem. Bavington fights with her heart on her sleeve and never takes a step back and with this the top fighters may capitalism on this. Bavington is a very good boxer and in my opinion, if Kirstie used her boxing skills more I can see big titles in her future. The emotion she showed at the end of the fight says everything about her passion for boxing, I look forward to seeing her boxes again soon.
