Wolverhampton’s Brandon Bethell got back to winning ways at the Hangar Event Venue in Wolverhampton (8.3. 25). The twenty-three-year-old who lost his last contest on points to Jahfieus Faure was taking on Karl Sampson (30) from Sheffield. The contest was scheduled for four three-minute rounds in the welterweight division on the BcB Promotions show called ‘March Madness’. This was a massive show with nine contest scheduled on the night Bethell weighted in for the contest at ten stone with Sampson coming in ten stone one with Ryan Churchill refereeing.

With his massive following behind him Bethell started the first round fast looking to pick Sampson off, Sampson moved well and looked to counter with Bethell bobbing and weaving looking for openings winning the round. The second was more of a convincing round for Bethell as he let his hands go more landing some good shots, Sampson was still landing the odd shot of his own but Bethell won the round with his good work rate.

As the crowd roared at the start of the third Bethell went to work looking to land some big combinations, Sampson was being very cagey and stayed on the move avoiding a lot of the shots with Bethell ‘s work-rate winning him the round. Bethnell was still on the hunt in the final round as Sampson moved well around the ring. Bethell took his time and landed some nice combinations winning the round and the fight.

Ref Ryan Churchill scored the contest 40 to 36 Bethell, I had it the same.
Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Bethell who had brought a massive following to the Hangar Event centre. Bethell was coming off a close points defeat but you could see from the start the he was not going to be denied. Bethell showed that he has learned from that defeat and he showed off his skills in this four-round contest. If that is the case then the defeat will help Bethell progress and become a better boxer and I can see Bethell contesting for the area title in his next few fits.
