The 22-year-old is boxing once again in his home city after winning his first three fights, including a first-round demolition of Logan Paling and a points win against veteran Liam Richards. Last time out, the confident lightweight faced tricky Lithuanian Simas Volosinas, coming away with a shutout on referee Ryan Churchill’s scorecard.
“As the fight gets closer, I’m just feeling excited, said Bethell. This time we are stepping it up to six rounds after three good wins over four. I enjoy the longer distance when we spar in the gym, so I think it will definitely suit me and bring out my best.
“When I look back at my fights, there are always things I could have done better. He held a lot and slowed the fight down, which over such a short distance can be a bit frustrating. I showed on my debut that I have power, but these last two I have shown I have more to my game, and my fitness is good.
Bethell trains at the Trojan Martial Arts Academy in Walsall Wood, where the former kickboxer has built up a strong relationship with coach and gym owner Gavin Burrows.
“I love every day in the gym; I’m sure a lot of boxers feel the same way, and it is all credit to Gav; he puts the time into me, doing three sessions a day, travelling with me to spar, and yeah, the training can be hard, but as we step up the intensity, I am enjoying it even more.
His army of supporters has shown up in increasing numbers and made plenty of noise for the die-hard Wolverhampton Wanderers fan, with over three hundred people packing out the Hangar Venue back in March.
“What can I say? They are a brilliant crowd; they keep turning out for me again and again, and hopefully we can get on a televised event soon, and they stick with me on the way to the top. I want to push myself and box to the best of my ability, and I really think you will see that on June 21st.
The event at the Hangar Venue is also set to feature Midlands champion Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards as well as the unbeaten trio of Gully Powar, Danny Skidmore, and Omarah Taylor.
