Birmingham will see a busy weekend of boxing as BcB Promotions and Tommy Owens Promotions holds two boxing shows on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st October. Black Country Promotions will be hosting a British Super Flyweight title with Birmingham’s Ijaz Ahmed taking on Marcel Braithwaite for the vacant title. The show will be held at the Holiday Inn Birmingham on Friday 20th October with a very impressive undercard that included six contests. With the likes of Ben Vaughan, Zain Ali, Hamzah Ahmed, Hamza Azeem and the two female hot prospects in Sian O’Toole and Tori-Ellis Willetts all fighting out of the home corner, this has the potential to be a great night of boxing.
Tommy Owens Promotions show will be showcasing some of the hottest prospects the Midlands have to offer. The show is called ‘Give No Quarter’ will consist of seven fights with the unbeaten hot prospect Nyall Berry headlining the show. The show will be held at the H-Suite Edgbaston on Saturday 21st October and on the undercard, there will be five of the best prospects the Midlands have to offer and one fighter making his debut. In the home corner on the night, you have Second City gyms Brad Coley, from DnA gym you have Elliot Sowe and Tyler Christopher, from Tamworth David Butlin and from Birmingham Ryan Whelan and making his debut Mohammed Rauf.
The Birmingham Boxing Column will be attending both shows below is a breakdown of all the fighters.
We start off with the BcB main event, this is Ijaz Ahmed’s fourth attempt at claiming the British title but he is undefeated in his attempts drawing all three of them. Thirty-year-old Ahmed has entered the ring fifteen times winning ten and drawing three, he is currently the IBF and WBO European Super Flyweight champ and will be determined to finally claim the Lonsdale belt. His opponent twenty-nine-year-old Liverpudlian Marcel Braithwaite has entered the ring nineteen times winning fifteen and drawing one which was against Ijaz Ahmed. Braithwaite has won the English, Commonwealth and WBC International super Flyweight titles and has contested for the British title twice. This is without doubt the most anticipated fight of the weekend and could possibly be a fight of the year contest.
Southpaw, Twenty-four-year-old Ben Vaughan from Northampton has won all of his six fights so far. The welterweight who is known as the Bomber will be looking to make it seven when he takes on thirty-one-year-old Jimmy Cooper who has won ten an drew one of his twelve fights.
Twenty-three-year-old Hamzeh Ahmed will be having his second contest of his career after winning hi first contest. Known as the ‘Poster boy’ Ahmed made his debut in June of this year beating Gurjant Singh on points.
Super Middleweight Hamza Azeem will be having his fourth contest after winning his first three. The Birmingham southpaw known as ‘The King’ beat Paul Cummings in his last fight in September of this year on points.
We also have two up and coming female prospects in Sian O’Toole and Tori-Ellis Willetts. O’Toole from Droitwich will be having her second contest after winning every round of her six-round contest in September of this year.
Twenty-eight-year-old Tori-Ellis Willetts will be having her third fight of her pro career with the Nuneaton prospect winning her first two fights both over six round and stopping her first opponent in the third.
Last on the bill is Zain Ali the Birmingham super Welterweight will be making his debut on this fantastic show.
Twenty-four-year-old Nyall Berry headlines the Tommy Owens Promotions show on Saturday 21st October. Berry has won all of his eight contest so far and is also looking beyond the 21st as he is set to fight on the Boxxer Promotions show in Wolverhampton on the 18th of November. Berry’s opponent has yet to be named but it will most likely be a six-round contest. If featherweight Berry wins on Saturday and then on the 18th I’m sure his eye will be on a Midlands or even an English.
Brad Coley will be having his third fight of his pro career. The talented twenty-three-year-old who trains out of Second City gym Kingstanding impressed in his second contest beating Jake Pollard on points winning every round.
Bermuda born Tyler Christopher aka Mike Tyler will be looking to make it eight without defeat on the 21st. Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher who trains out of the DnA gym stopped his last opponent Justin Mensie in the second round of a six round contest. Christopher's opponent is yet to be named but I’m sure the super welterweight prospect will be looking to challenge for titles very soon.
Twenty-five-year-old Elliot Sowe will be looking to put another ‘W’ in the win column as he has his seventh professional contest. Sowe has won five out of his six contest with the super Lightweight earning a points victory in his last fight in March of this year.
Tamworth’s David Butlin will be having his third professional contest after winning his first two fights as a pro. The twenty-nine-year-old nine-year old’s opponent has yet to be named and his fight will probably be over four rounds. Butlin beat the veteran Journeyman Darryl Sharp on points in June of this year.
Twenty-six-year-old Ryan Whealan will be having his second professional contest on this show. The Birmingham born fighter beat Darryl Sharp on points in April of this year on his debut.
Birmingham’s Mohammed Rauf will be making his debut on the show on the 21st October.
The Birmingham Boxing Column will be reporting on both shows and can not wait for a great week end of boxing.
