Stourbridge’s Ben Collins has ended the year with a dominant performance at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham (20.12.24). The twenty year was coming off a defeat in his last contest and was looking to get back to winning ways against Harry Mathews (36) from York. Collins came into the contest with a record of two wins out of three fights with his opponent having won seventeen contests in one hundred of sixteen fights. The fight was over four three minute rounds in the Cruiserweight division with Collins coming in twelve stone nine and Mathews coming in twelve stone twelve with Ryan Churchill reffing.
Nice start from Collins with everything coming off a nice sharp jab, Collins kept it long with some nice backhands winning the first round. Collins controlled the centre of the ring in the second dictating the pace with some Sharp stiff jabs whipping in nice combinations to the head and body.
Collins controlled the third round with his jab as Mathews just looked to cover up , Collins continued to work the body and head well with good combinations winning the round. Collins stepped it up in the final round putting into the some nice combinations to the head and body, Mathews hung on in there as Collins went though the gears finishing the round strong.
Ref Ryan Churchill scored the contest 40 to 36 I had it the same.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Great to see Collins back to winning ways after his shock defeat earlier this year. That defeat seemed just to be a bad day at the office as Collins dominated every round and using his jab well landing some nice combinations. Collins is a very talented boxer and I think he has a very bright future and looked good in this contest. Hopefully Collins is out more often next year and gets on the Queensberry promotions shows. I didn’t mention in the Bbcolumn’s Boxers to watch which was an oversight, Ben Collins is one of the hottest talents in the Midlands at the moment and is definitely one to watch next year. I look forward to seeing him box again very soon.
