Cooper Gets Second Crack at Midland’s Title

Walsall’s Shaun Cooper has been handed his second crack at the vacant Midland area title this time at super Lightweight. Twenty-six-year-old Cooper will be taking on unbeaten southpaw Ben Vaughan in his hometown of Northampton at the Park Inn Hotel on the 2nd of June 2023. The show is being promoted by Black Country Promotions and the contest has been matched made by Errol Johnson.

Cooper has lost his last two contests, losing on points to Rylan Charlton in a three-round contest in the Boxxers tournament and then losing to the highly-rated Sam Maxwell in February or 2023. Cooper has had a total of eighteen fights and has won thirteen of them beating the likes of Boy Jones jr and Sean Davis. Cooper has already fought for the lightweight version of the Midlands title losing to the then-unbeaten Jack O’Keeffe being stopped in the fourth round in September of 2019., Cooper also fought for the vacant WBC International Silver lightweight title in December of 2021 being stopped by Sam Noakes in the ninth round.

We then talked about training and how it was going and if he gas changed anything, he told me, “Training never changes I always train hard no matter what it is rounds 4-6-8-10 I always give 110%. Mart has the plan for what we do and I have fought many southpaws in spared so I’ll be ready for whatever he brings”!

Cooper finished by saying “I’m going for war and making sure I come victorious! Win by points or stoppage! I’m winning either way”.

Cooper finished by thanking his sponsors “D.P building & property service; Simmons pork scratchings, Peaky Barbers, and my amazing wife”!

Twenty-three-year-old Vaughan is unbeaten in five contests, he has fought four times over four three-minute rounds and completed a six-rounder in his last fight winning on points.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Cooper has a great chance here to get his hands on a Midlands title, I have followed his career since his first fight back in April of 2017. I have always said he will win a title and in both attempts, he was up against unbeaten fighters. Vaughan is unbeaten but is also untested with only five pro fights under his belt. This is a great opportunity for Cooper to claim a title and move on to bigger ones. Myself unless Vaughan is BcB’s best-kept secret I can only see Cooper being crowned champ. I wish both fighters the best of luck in this contest.
