Rowley Regis’s Tyler Denny will be contesting in a ten-round contest against Macauley McGowan on the undercard of the Buatsi vs Stepien show promoted by Boxxer and Ben Shalom on May 6th. Denny’s English title is not on the line and rumours of it being for a European title have now been squashed for now. The show is being aired live on Sky Sports and is being held at the Genting Centre Birmingham.
Thirty-one-year-old Denny has defended his English twice since beating River Wilson-Bent on points in June 2022. In Southpaw Denny’s last five contests, he has taken on five unbeaten fighters beating Derrick Osaze, drawing and beating River Wilson-Bent, and then defending his title against Bradley Rea and Brad Pauls. Denny has fought twenty-one times winning sixteen and drawing three. Denny has fought for the English title three times before winning it being Reece Cartwright in September of 2018 then losing to Linus Udofia in November of 2019. Denny then drew against River Wilson-Bent in November of 2021 then won it in June 2022. Denny’s first title was when he beat Tom Stokes for the Midlands Area Middleweight title beating him on points at Walsall town hall back in September of 2017.
His opponent Macaulay McGowan (28) from Manchester has had twenty-two contests and has won seventeen and drawn two. All three of his defeats came when he fought over ten rounds and has fought for the WBC International super welterweight title Losing on points.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Gutting for Tyler that this fight on such a big stage is not for a major title, there were rumours that it was going to be for the European title and I honestly think it should have been. There is now the possibility that it could be for an international title but nothing has been confirmed yet. Denny has paid his dues as an English champ contending for it three times before winning bit and defending it twice, if anyone deserved a shot at a British or European title it is Denny. The first time I saw Tyler fight was when he beat Tom Stokes for the Midlands area back in 2017 on point and to say I was impressed was an understatement. He showed some nice skills in that fight with great movement from a southpaw stance and won out of the away corner quite easily. I messaged the new champ the week after to ask him to come to Fightden in Birmingham for an interview which he did and bought his belt with him. I have nothing but respect for this slick hard-working fighter and hope after he wins this fight and the world gets to see Tyler Denny Shine live on Sky Sports he gets the title fights he deserves.
