Denny Loses His Title But What A Great Run

Rowley Regis’s Tyler Denny lost his EBU Middleweight European title against one of the hottest prospects in the world at the moment Hamzah Sheeraz on the undercard of the Joshua vrs Dubois show at Wembley stadium (21/9/24). The thirty-three-year-old was coming off a fantastic victory over Felix Cash where he defended his EBU European title and continued his eight-fight unbeaten run. Six foot three Sheeraz who was unbeaten in twenty contests was also putting his Commonwealth title and his WBC silver Middleweight titles in this twelve-round fight. Both fighters weighed in eleven stone five with Mark Bate reffing the contest.

Denny was caught cold at the start of the first round as Sheeraz landed a fast sharp combination putting Denny down. Denny took an eight count and continued the round with Sheeraz controlling it while Denny worked hard when he could.

Denny had some spots of joy at the start of the second round but Sheeraz was in full control using his jab well to set up some fast combinations. Sheeraz ended the fight putting Denny down with some nice sharp hooks to Denny’s temples. Denny managed to get to his feet but ref Mark Bate waved the fight off two minutes and five seconds in the second round,

Sheeraz wins the second-round stoppage.

Dexter’s Thoughts

This was always going to be a big ask for Denny who has been over-achieving on paper for most of his career. Sheeraz is undoubtedly one of the hottest prospects in the world after beating Amo Williams in his last fight. Still, Denny had no problems accepting this contest on the biggest stages in world boxing on a Riyadh Season show. Denny was outgunned by a fantastic boxer and without a doubt, a future world champion do Denny can walk out of the ring with his head held high. Denny has received a massive payday for this fight which he deserves as he has battled from the small hall shows to the biggest stage in boxing.

I remember the first time I saw Denny Box at Walsall town hall in September of 2017 where he was the away fighter against the much-fancied Tom Stokes for the Midlands area title beating the unbeaten fight on points. I interviewed Tyler a few weeks later and from that moment I have been a fan, I have to say that I didn’t think he would beat River Wilson-Bent he went on and got a draw then beat him and went on an eight-fight unbeaten run where Denny beat several unbeaten fighters on the way. Denny can come back from this defeat if he wants to and with his BcB team behind him, he could contest for titles again.
