Dominant performance by Griffiths

Twenty-three-year-old Ryan Griffiths put on a dominant performance at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham (17.8.24). Griffiths who is the Midlands area Lightweight champion after beating Lewis Morris in his last fight was having a tick over fight against Joshua Morris in a four-round contest. Griffiths from Dudley came into the contest unbeaten in five fights with his opponent Morris from Wednesbury making his professional debut. Griffiths weighed in ten stone with Morris coming ten stone six in a welterweight contest with Ryan Churchill reffing.

Griffiths started strong as Morris looked to impress on his debut, Morris was pushed back for most of the first round and did land some good shots but Griffiths was dominant with a high work rate and cleaner shots. Morris tucked up well in the second as Griffiths continued to unleash big shots to the head and body, Morris was in full survival mode as Griffiths won the round.

Another dominant third round for Griffiths as he worked Morris’s body well banging in big hooks, big credit to Morris for taking everything that was thrown at him. Blood poured out of Morris nose as Griffiths continued to smash him around the ring, Morris showed some serious heart as he took every shot and saw the final bell.

Griffiths wins 40 to 36

Dexter’s Thoughts

Very dominant performance by Griffiths who showcased all his skills in this four-round contest. You had to give Morris a lot of credit for accepting this fight on his debut, he showed a lot of heart but I have a feeling Morris is looking to go on the road and be a journeyman which on this performance he will do well at. Griffiths showcased his skills in this fight and it was a good tick-over for him but I do think this talented champion needs to be tested before he sets his eyes on English or bigger titles. I look forward to seeing Griffiths in the ring very soon.
