European Champ Kristie Bavington

Wolverhampton’s Kirstie Bavington has claimed the Female EBU European Welterweight title in a unanimous points decision against Timea Belik from Hungary. The Show was held in Bavington’s home town of Wolverhampton at the Hangar event centre and was called ‘Havoc at the Hangar 2' and was promoted by BcB Promotions. Bavington (29) record was 5 wins 2 draws out of 9 contests with Belik (29) record being 5 wins out of 9. Bavington weighed in 10 stone 5 with Belik coming in 10 stone 6 with Jose Lazaro Carrasco jr refereeing.

Bavington pressed from the first bell with Belik looking very uncomfortable on the back foot winning the first three rounds with ease. In the fourth Belik went down from the pressure but was deemed as a slip by the ref but Belik did have some joy at the end of the round. In the fifth, sixth and seventh Bavington continued her high work-rate banging in some big shots going head and body well. As the pace slowed in the eighth, ninth and tenth Bavington picking her shots well dropping Belik at the end of the eighth but it being classed as a slip. Bavington poured on the pressure until the final bell in a shut out victory.

The Judges on the night scored it 100 to 90, 99 to 91 and 92 to 92 to Bavington.

Myself I had it 100 to 90 Bavington.

Dexter’s Thought’s

What a great performance by the former professional footballer and full time school teacher Kirstie Bavington winning the EBU European Welterweight title in a shut out victory in her home town. I have followed her since the start of her career back in May of 2018 at the Holte Suite Villa Park where she started her career with a points draw against tough journey women Borislava Goranova. I remember interviewing a dejected Bavington after this fight and thinking that she may struggle to reach major titles opportunity’s as she did not really shine. But after a change in management and joining BcB Promotions Bavington won her next two contests before fighting for a WBC International super lightweight title against Cherrelle Brown losing on points in July of 2019. Bavington won both of her two fights in 2021 leading to headlining this show in her home town and claiming the EBU Title. Bavington now will be looking at the world titles and the possibility’s for her are way beyond that draw in her first contest in 2018. Bavington is an inspirational person who has shown with perseverance and dedication you can achieve anything. On winning this prestigious title Bavington has earned a place in the Bbcolumn ‘Hall of Fame’, she is only the second female to achieve this and it is very well deserved.

Congratulations to Kirstie Bavington EBU European Welterweight Champion and Bbcolumn Hall of Famer.
