Gully Powar's to Ten Without Defeat

Twenty-one-year-old Gully Powar took his professional boxing record to ten without defeat on the Black Country Promotions show ‘Pride of the Black Country’ held on 21.06.24). The Wolverhampton fighter was taking on Joshua Ocampo in a six-round contest at the Hangar Venue Wolverhampton. This was the main event of the night of a five-fight card with Powar weighing in nine stone six with Ocampo coming in nine stone five in this lightweight competition with Ryan Churchill reffing.

Powar pressed from the first bell using a heavy jab to land nice ones-twos and then dropping down to great combinations winning the round. Ocampo had no answer to Powars heavy jabs and backhands in the second and was on the back foot for the whole round as powar landed great combinations. Great combinations by Powar in the third going to the head and body well with Ocampo looking to hold and spoil whenever possible.

Powar continued to work the body well in the fourth banging in some nice backhands and eye-catching uppercuts. Ocampo had a go in the fifth but this just left him open to Powar’s countering him as he continued to land slick combinations. Ref Ryan Churchill gave Ocampo a dressing down due to all the holding and spoiling he was doing as he used every trick in the book to see the round out. Powar came out fast in the first round as he looked to finish strong, Ocampo looked to hold and spoil at every point possible to see the final bell.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Powar who took his professional boxing record to ten without defeat. Powar is a very talented fighter but I do think now he has hit double figures in wins he needs to be given a challenge. He is definitely ready for a Midlands title shot but I really think he has to beyond this and should now be looking to contest for the English title. He has been on the big TV promotions and I think he will be returning to them very soon. He showcased some great combinations going to the body well and has got titles in his future.
