Healy Retains Title

Katie Healy (9-1) retained her Commonwealth Silver Super Bantamweight title, beating Ashleigh Johnson (2-2) on points in George Town on the Cayman Islands 'Rumble On The Rock' event promoted by FightZone.

The 26-year-old from Wolverhampton won the belt at the same venue last December against Shelly Barnett, and the crowd inside the Lions Centre remembered her fondly making plenty of noise during her energetic ring walk.

It was a dominant ten rounds from 'Hellcat' who completely outboxed the shorter Johnson, peppering away with the jab and single straight right hands that saw her rack up the points on the judges score cards. The challenger from Swansea was game and showed strength as she tried to manoeuvre Healy against the ropes but never got into any sort of offensive rhythm.

An uppercut troubled Johnson in the fifth, and as the fight wore on, the pace started to slow, with Healy showing her experience landing the cleaner shots as Hall of Fame legend Roy Jones watched on at ringside. Keeping the fight at range was working well for Healy, but she showed a willingness to trade when required as well as use her size to sap the energy from Johnson.

Both teams lifted their fighters hands at the final bell, but Healy was the clear winner, taking a unanimous decision of 98-92, 97-93, and 100-90.

"Ashleigh boxed a good fight said Healy. We have been working on making most of me being the taller fighter. It has been a weird week seeing each other around the island. I hope to be back here; it's like a second home to me.

Another excellent performance from the TMA Trojan-trained fighter, and the well-travelled former WBA world title challenger and coach Gavin Burrows can look forward to another major title fight in 2025.
