West Bromwich Albion supporter James Griffiths took his professional record to five without defeat at the Bescot Stadium Walsall (26.04.24). The twenty-eight-year-old from Wombourne was taking on Shane Smith from Gloucestershire in a four-three-minute round middleweight contest on the BcB Promotions show called ‘Powar Moves’. Both fighters weighed in eleven stone six with Ryan Churchill refereeing.
Griffiths controlled the first round using his jab well to set up some nice combinations off, Smith moved well and made Griffiths work to try and pin him down. Smith continued to move well in the second and was making himself a hard target to hit. Griffiths stayed composed and when he did pin Smith down, he landed some nice combinations to win it.
Smith had a go at the start of the third but was soon back on the run as Griffiths used his jab and landed some nice backhands to win the round. Griffiths started to pin Smith down and was getting through with some nice combinations and was making Smith now have to work, Smith got the odd shot off but Griffiths won the round and the contest.
Ref Ryan Churchill scored it 39 to 37 Griffiths I had it 40 to thirty-six Griffiths.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Great performance by Griffiths as he takes his record to five without defeat, he is showing nice skills and good boxing IQ as he stayed composed as his opponent kept on the move. I had the contest 40 to 36 I couldn’t really see where Smith won a round on the refs score card as he had it 39 37 to Griffiths. Griffiths is a very talented boxer who is showing great potential and can see him contesting for a Midlands title in three or four fights time. I look forward to seeing James Griffiths fight again very soon.
