Tipton's Hot Prospect Conor Baker took time after his latest victory to chat to the Birmingham Boxing Column and answer a few questions about the noble art. The twenty-seven-year-old who is unbeaten in four professional contests informed the Column that he and his team have now come up with a nickname for him choosing ‘The Greyhound’ as his nan called it his so it means a lot to him . Super Lightweight Baker fights out of an Orthodox stance and stands at five foot ten informs the Column that he had thirty amateur contests but can’t remember his official record. Baker is trained by Mark Maca Richards fights out of Anchor Gym and has been boxing on and off since he was eleven.
My first question to Baker was, who is your favourite boxer, and why? Baker informed me, “It would have to be Evander Holyfield, I love his style, and feel some similarities in myself”. When asked about the best fight he has seen he told me “Keith Thurman against Shawn Porter”
When asked what inspired you to take up boxing? Baker told me “My older cousin was a boxer and got me into it”. I then asked Baker what has been your hardest fight? Baker said “it would have to be my last fight against Jordan Ellison, he was a well-seasoned boxer”.
Baker finished by saying “I had five years out of the ring and then went straight into the professional game”.
Dexter’s Thoughts
I have had the pleasure of watching all four of Conor’s fights and I have been impressed every time. Baker said that his last fight was his hardest and I would have to agree, his opponent came to win and asked another of questions but Baker had all the answers winning every round. Baker is looking like a great prospect and if he continues his progression I can see a Midlands title around his waist soon. How far can Baker go I think he has the potential to contest at British level in the next few years and who knows how far this talented fighter can go. The Column will be here to report on Baker and his boxing journey.
