Nico Finally Turns Over To The Pros

Twenty nine year unlicensed sensation Nico Ogbeide has finally turned over to the professional ranks after flaunting with the idea few years ago. Ogbeide fought at a high level on the unlicensed circuit winning a total of eight titles over twenty five plus fights.

Ogbeide has also coached other unlicensed fighters and promoted his own shows but is leaving this all behind to pursue his dream of being a professional boxer. His first professional contest will be over four three minute rounds in the super featherweight division. I caught up with Nico and my first question was did he know who he was fighting on July 14th at the Hangar event venue Wolverhampton. Nico informed me “I'm not too sure who I'm fighting yet Errol (Nico’s manager) mentioned two guys one being Liam Richards”.

I then asked him why it has taken him so long to turn over as he signed with BcB promotions three or four years ago. Nico told me “I signed as a pro with Tyler Shakespeare as my coach and then he was unable to coach me, I didn't want to go with anyone else at that time and I ended up just stopping all together” His coach Tyler Shakspeare from Erdington is a former professional European Kickboxing champ and runs Saxon boxing/Kickboxing gym Holly Lane has trainer boxing champions with the likes of English Champ Kyle Williams coming thought his gym. We then talked about how he was feeling about his first fight. He informed me “I’m feel good to be doing it to be honest, I've been working hard training twice a day and although it being tiring I'm loving the process”.

Dexter’s Thoughts

I was one of the people when Nico was an unlicensed fighter that he should turn over to the professional ranks and was really excited when he was going to turn over three or four years ago. He is a talented boxer and it showed his loyalty to his coach to hold off turning over until he could do his corner. He dies not know who he is fighting yet but Liam Richards has been mentioned which would be a great opponent for his first contest. Whoever he does fight I am looking forward to seeing this talent fighter make his debut on the Black Country Boxing Promotions show at the Hangar venue 14th July.
