Nine without Defeat For Jones In Cracking Six Rounder

Birmingham’s hard-hitting Troy Jones secured his ninth victory in a testing six-round contest at the H-Suite Edgbaston (16.02.24). The entertaining six-round contest was on the undercard of a Welterweight Midlands area title and was called Collation Course and was promoted by Black Country Promotions. Jones (25) was taking on 30-year-old Ondrej Budera who had won eighteen and drew two out of fifty-six contests. Both fighters weighed in twelve stone 10 with Ryan Churchill reffing and Chris Dean judging.

Jones used his jab well in the first going head and body with some great combinations which included some eye-catching uppercuts in a dominant round. Budera was looking in survival mode as Jones pressed and landed some heavy combinations to Budera head and body. Budera let some leather go in the third as a cut over his left eye opened, Jones continued to land big shots with good combinations to the head and body winning the round.

The pace slowed in fourth as Jones let Budera take the centre of the ring and work. Jones stepped it up at the end of the round landing some nice combinations and some eye-catching shots. Budera had grown into this fight in the fifth and was landing some great combinations, jones stepped it up and landed the better shots just to edge it. Budera was still having a go in the final round as they both went toe to toe in the centre of the ring. Jones was warned by ref for pushing his opponent, in a hard-fought back-and-forth round where both fighters landed good shots would have to say Jones just nicked it.

Judge Chris Dean scored the contest 59 to 55 to Jones I had it 60 to 55 to Jones.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Jones in a very competitive and hard-fought contest. These are the fights that Jones needs where his opponent will test him and push him to the next level. I think Jones is ready for the next step and should now be looking at contesting for an area title or even the English light heavyweight title. The light Heavyweight division is one of the hottest in Britain at the moment but I can see Jones at the very least contesting for the British or maybe even more. Jones has a very bright future and has a massive following which will help him when he steps up to bigger promotions. As always I look forward to seeing Jones in the ring very soon.
