Birmingham’s Nico Ogbeide shone on his long-awaited professional debut at the H-Suite Edgbaston (01.10.23). Nico took on thirty-two-year-old Logan Paling who is also from Birmingham on the BcB show Crunch-time at Lunchtime. Nico's bout was over four-three-minute rounds and was being contested in the super lightweight division. Ogbeide weighed in on the day at nine stone ten with Logan Paling coming in nine stone thirteen either Chris Dean reffing.
Steady start by both boxers as they weighed each other up, Ogbeide let some nice combinations go using his jab well to win the round. Paling started to ask some questions in the second round getting some nice shots off, Ogbeide replied with some nice combinations which kept Paling on the back foot. Ogbeide stepped it up in the third round and let some nice combinations off working the body and head making Paling cover up and keeping safe. Ogbeide really took control in the final round and used his jab and nice combinations to keep Paling on the back foot and using all the journeyman tricks he has learned over his nine fights.
Ref Chris Dean scored the contest 40 to 36 Ogbeide, I had it the same,
Dexter’s Thoughts
Great to see Nico at last make his pro debut at the H-Suite this afternoon, he showed great movement and some nice combinations as he grew into his first professional fight. Nico brought a good following with him and they made themselves heard as they cheered on the former unlicensed boxer to his first pro victory. He impressed me with his shot selection and how he controlled the pace of the fight. He will be competing as a Super lightweight which if you include the Lightweights is one of the most competitive divisions in the Midlands. Ogbeide showed on his debut he is up for the task and time will tell how far he can go, but I was impressed with his performance and look forward to seeing him progress his career,
