Paige Goodyear and Tori Ellis Willetts displayed ‘Girl Power’ as both female fighters impressed on the Black Country Boxing Promotions show. (30.07.23). The show was held at the Eastside Rooms Birmingham and was called the ‘The Crunch Time at Lunch Time’ and consisted of eight contests. Tori and Paige were both doing six two minute round contests with Tori (27) having her second fight and Paige (22) entering the ring for the fourth Time. Nuneaton’s Tori was taking on Nicaraguan Wendellin Cruz in a welterweight contest. Paige from Sedgley took on Serbian born Marija Zivkovic in a super Welterweight contest.
Paige Goodyear was the first female fighter on the card, she weighed in at ten stone five with her opponent Zivkovic coming in ten stone eight with Chris Dean reffing.
Goodyear took the centre of the ring and controlled the first round with some nice combinations and a high work-rate. Goodyear continued her high tempo boxing in the second letting nice combinations off to Zivkovic’s head and body. As Goodyear went to go back to work in the third round Zivkovic seemed to twist her knee and slumped to the floor holding her leg, ref Chris Dean started to count and Zivkovic managed to get to her feet by the count of nine but was unable to continue just twenty seven seconds into the third round.
Goodyear wins 27 seconds into the third round TKO.
Tori Ellis Willetts was next on the card, she weighed in eight stone six with her opponent coming in neatly a stone heavier at nine stone five with Chris Dean reffing.
Fast pace set by Willetts in the first round as she did not stop letting shots go until the bell sounded to end the round. The second was another high paced round by Willetts who kept Cruz on the back foot with great jabs and combinations, all Cruz could do was try and hold and spoil Willetts good work. Cruz had a go back in the third round which seemed to make Willetts step up her pace even more, after the first minute of the round Cruz looked spent with Willetts winning the round with ease.
Willetts continued to let her hands go in the fourth getting some nice shots off and could not seem to miss with her back hand. Willetts landed four unanswered cracking right hands which set the mood for the fifth round, Willetts continued to pour on the pressure with Cruz looking to cover up and are the round out. Cruz tried to hold and spoil in the final round as she just looked to see the final bell, but Willetts still managed to get some good shots off to win the round and the fight with ease.
Ref Chris Dean Scored the round 60 to 54 Willetts I had it the same.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Well here are two great additions to the Black Country Boxing Promotions female roster as both of them impressed me in there fights. Goodyear started steady and showed freak movement and combinations. It was a shame that her opponent sustained an injury as Goodyear was just started to move up the gears but never the less it was a good win.
Willetts really impressed me with a high punch out put and some great shot picking you had to give Cruz credit for staying in there with here. There was nearly a stone different between them but that did not deter Tori from bringing the fight to Cruz’s. This was just her second contest and if she continues on this kind of form I can see big thing for her in the future.
Both of these fighters are ones to watch in the future.
