Quartermaine Shines on the Big Stage

Leamington’s Danny Quartermaine kicked off the big Boxxer Promotions show at the Resorts World Birmingham in style with a stoppage victory. This was the first time the unbeaten twenty five-year old lightweight fighter had fought on a big show and he brought his massive following with him. He was the first home fighter on the undercard of Joshua Buatsi’s return to the ring which was being aired live on Sky Sports. Quartermaine came into the contest with an unbeaten record of eight wins and no defeats and was taking on tough Mexican Christian Lopez Flores (31) who had won fourteen fights and drew two out of 41 contests. Quartermaine weighed in nine stone five with Flores coming in nine stone eight with Ryan Churchill reffing.

Quartermaine started the first round well with his massive following cheering him on, he showed super fast hands and nice combinations winning the round with ease. Quartermaine showed his speed again in the second as he shot out lightning fast jabs pushing Flores back to the ropes, Flores did have a go back but Quartermaine won the round convincingly. Quartermaine continued his excellent work in the third as Flores tried to box on the back foot, Flores started to have a go back but Quartermaine caught him with some nice shot with Flores seeming to slip but the ref started to count him. Flores got to his feet and continued, he then let a big shot go which Quartermaine slipped out of the way with Flores falling down with the Leamington hot prospect moved in on him and was counted again. Flores protested the count but continued and saw the round out.

In the fourth Quartermaine kept up the high tempo and continued with some fast combinations and great movement. Quartermaine moved in and caught Flores with a nice right hand body shot, Flores reacted to the shot a few second later and took a knee, the ref started to count but the waved off the contest with two seconds to go in the final round.

Quartermaine wins by TKO 2 minutes 58 seconds into the fourth round.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Danny Quartermaine to kick off a great show, he showcased his skills and his following as hundreds of his supporters were in the show from the start to cheer on their fighter. Like I said the performance was great, but he is also the first brit to stop this tough Mexican who has had his last eleven contests on these shores. He has now moved up to nine without defeat and should at least get a shot at a Midlands area title but I think he is now surpassed this title. It would be good for him to win that title as it would be his first ten round contest and if he does the English title should be in his sights. Quartermaine is a very exciting and entertaining fighter with a big following and on his one performance on the big stage Boxxer  and the other big promoters should be looking at signing him or at least getting him on there shows. He has great future ahead of him and I really look forward to seeing how far this talented fighter can go.
