River Flows at Planet Ice

Coventry’s River Wilson-Bent notched up a skilful win on the Tommy Owens Promotions Summer Brawls II at Planet Ice Solihull (10.6.23). Wilson-Bent (29) was coming off a stoppage defeat to the unbeaten Austin Williams in April of this year was looking to get back to winning way in a six-round contest. The former English Middleweight champ took on Slovakian Pavol Garaj (36) who had entered the ring fifty times as a professional. Both fighters weighed in twelve stone for this super Middleweight contest with Chris Dean reffing.

Wilson-Bent got behind his jab and kept Garaj on the end of it in the first keeping it simple with some heavy one, twos.  Wilson-Bent stepped it up in the second putting some heavy combinations together with everything coming off a heavy jab. Wilson-Bent dominated the third with big combinations going head and body then body and head and was in full control.

The fourth was another dominate round with Wilson-Bent continuing to bang in combination after combination with no reply from Garaj. Wilson-Bent poured on the punishment as he controlled the fifth from start to finish, Wilson-Bent caught Garaj with a lovely right hand and a big combination at the end with the bell saving Garaj. Wilson-Bent went into overdrive in the final round as he hit Garaj with everything he had, fair play to Garaj who saw the final bell.

Chris Dean had it 60 to 54 I had it the same

Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by River who showed why he has won Area and English titles in the past. He didn’t give his opponent a chance to get any punches of value off in all of the six rounds. He put a shift in himself keeping the pressure on and using high-tempo fighting to overwhelm his opponent and nearly had him out of there in the fifth. He has only ever lost to quality fighters and I have no doubt that he will be back on the big stage again very soon fighting for titles.
