Shak Is Back In EBU European Light Heavyweight Title Fight

Birmingham’s Shakan Pitters returns to the ring in February after being inactive for over a year contesting for the EBU European light heavyweight. The thirty five year old former British Light-Heavyweight champ will be taking on France's Daniel Dos Santos (34) in this twelve-round contest promoted by GBM promotions at the Park Community arena Sheffield and streamed live on DAZN. Shakan who stands at an incredible six foot six who has been sign by GBM promotions has a record of nineteen wins out of Twenty one fights, six foot three Dos Santos has a record of twenty two wins out of Twenty three fights with his only defeat coming against Britain Joshua Buatsi.

Shakan With His British Title

I caught up with Shakan and quizzed him on his return to the ring, my first question to Shak was, You have been out of the ring for over a year, Why did you have such a big lay off?  Shakan told me “it was just the business end in boxing, life was difficult as a free agent but I was never willing to sell myself short! In that time I been in the gym committed and training to be a better fighter”.

My next question to the former British champ was, how did you feel when you were told you were fighting for the EBU title? Shak said “Yes its was a good feeling, its good to get back in the ring, and headlining another amazing show and of course I’m happy to add another belt to my collection”. I then asked Pitters how training has been going, he told me “Trainings has been good for this fight like most my camps I put the work in”. When I asked Shak for a prediction he told me “12 rounds or less I get the win!” Shakan finished by saying “Tune in 7th Feb!”

Dexter’s Thoughts

I was so happy when I heard the news that Shakan Pitters was returning to the ring to contest for the EBU European title. I haven’t hidden the fact that he is one of my favourite fighters and it was great news that GBM Promotions have signed him. I have seen on social media that Shakan has been in continuous training at Eastside gym just waiting for a big fight to come along. His opponent looks like a very worthy opponent but after following Shakan from his first fight back in 2017 I can only see a Pitters victory and the start of a European rain by the Birmingham boxer. The light Heavyweight division is one of the best around at the moment with Britain showcasing several of the world’s best. It will be hard for Pitters even with a European title to look at the World titles while Bivol and Beterbiev are still in the mix but it would be great to see Shakan in the ring for a world title fight before he hangs them up. But first Shakan needs to do the business on February 7th at the Park Community Arena Sheffield and bring home the EBU European light heavyweight title. The Birmingham Boxing Column wishes Shakan the best of luck in this contest.
