Birmingham’s Shakan Pitters returned to the ring after over a year out of the Squared Circle with a fantastic stoppage victory. The thirty-five-year-old light heavyweight was meant to be contesting for the EBU light Heavyweight title with the Champion Dos Santos failing a medical. Pitters who stands at six foot six still wanted to fight and was now going to contest a six-round contest against a very durable opponent in Bahadur Karami (32) from Iran. The contest was being fought in Sheffield at the Park Community arena on the GBM Promotions which was being aired live on DAZN. Pitters weighed in twelve stone twelve with Karami coming in twelve stone eight with A star ref Michael Alexander reffing the contest.

Pitters came out in the first round sharp using his jab well and banging in some nice body shots and some great uppercuts with Karami having little or no response.

In the second round, Pitters continued his good work picking great shots working to the head and body well with every punch looking like it was hurting Karami. Pitters was in full control and landed a cracking right hook rocking Karami to his boots and putting Karami down somehow Karami got to his feet but still looked unsteady. Ref Michael Alexander let Karami continue and Pitters moved in unloading some educated shots landing repeatedly uppercuts with the ref jumping in two minutes thirteen second in the second round.

The first thing I would like to say is massive commiserations to Shakan and his family for the loss of Shak’s father just a few weeks ago, my heart goes out to all of you. Shak chose to continue preparing for his at that point title fight while his father Colin was in intensive care as this was what his father a former pro wanted. Shakan’s father passed away on January 15th which must have been devastating for Shak and his family, but Shakan knew what his father would want and continued to train and prepare for his title fight.
Unfortunately, Shakan’s opponent failed a medical so the title fight could go on, Shakan was still determined to fight on the show and took on the very durable Karami in a six-rounder. I completely understand why Shak continued to take the fight my mother died a month before my first fight and I knew she would want me to carry on.
In the contest, Shakan showed no ring rust using an educated jab and working the body well with some cracking uppercuts and ended it in great style with a great stoppage victory. I have never hidden that Shakan is one of my favorite fighters and seeing him back in the ring and in great form after over a year out was good to see. Shakan’s will now fight for the EBU light heavyweight title in his next fight which I can only see him winning. The light Heavyweight division is one of the hottest at the moment with great fighters on the domestic and world scene and when Shakan wins this title he will be fully in the mix. The Column in collaboration with Switch Radio will be looking to do a big interview with Shakan about his career and I look forward to seeing him in the ring again contesting for the EBU light heavyweight title.
