Sonny Shines With Second Win

Wolverhampton’s Heavyweight Sonny Clarke took his pro record to two without defeat at the Bescot Stadium Walsall (26.04.24). The twenty-two-year-old ‘Wolves Bomber’ was taking on Jake Darnell (29) from Blackpool in a four-three-minute round contest on the BcB Promotions show ‘Powar Moves’. Clarke weighed in seventeen stone one with Darnell coming in eighteen stone five with Ryan Churchill reffing.

Heavy shots from Clarke from the first bell by Clarke who used his jab well to set up big backhands and some evil overhand rights. Clarke had Darnell down with one of his heavy overhand rights, Darnell took the count and was able to continue and see the round out. Every shot had intent from Clarke in the second round as he put some nice combinations together Darnell tried to fight back but was forced to cover up for most of the round.

Clarke continued to dominant in the third using his heavy jab to set up some heavy shots to Darnell’s body and head. Darnell was just looking to hear the final bell in the fourth as he held at every chance he had, Clarke looked relaxed as he dropped his hands and picked his shots well with everything coming off a nice jab.

Ref Ryan Churchill scored it 40 to 35 Clarke I had it the same.

Dexter’s Thoughts

Very refreshing to see a Heavyweight on a small hall show and have to say Clarke looked impressive in his second contest. He put a lot of nice combinations together using a heavy jab to set them up, he had his opponent over in the first and from that point was in full control as Darnell just looked to see the fight out. Clarke is only twenty-two and is still learning his trade as a professional but he is a very talented heavy-handed boxer who has the potential to make waves in the heavyweight division. I was impressed with his performance and think if he is handled right Sonny’s future looks bright.
