DnA Gyms Elliott Sowe continues the rebuild with his second victory after losing to Kirk Stevens in November last year. The twenty-five-year-old from Birmingham took his record to six wins out of seven against Luke Middleton in a four-round contest at the H-Suite Edgbaston (3.12.23). The show was a Tommy Owens Promotions and was called ‘A December to Remember’ and consisted of five contests. The contest was in the Super Welterweight division with Sowe weighing in ten stone ten and Middleton coming in ten stone twelve with Pete McCormick reffing.
It was a steady first round by Sowe who controlled the pace and let some nice shots go winning the round with some great combinations. Sowe picked up the pace in the second doubling up the jab and landing some good combinations, Middleton had a go but Sowe won the round. Scrappy third round with lots of holding by both fighters, Sowe edged the round with the better work rate. Sowe looked to finish strong in the final round and controlled the centre of the ring with some good jabs, Middleton got some good shots in but it was Sowe’s round.
Judge Chris Dean scored it 40 to 36 I had it the same.
Dexter’s Thoughts
Great performance by Sowe who is looking back to the old fighter self before his first defeat. He showed great control in the ring and used his jab to set up some nice combinations winning every round. If Sowe continues on this path with his DnA gym team behind him I’m sure with three or four more wins in the bag he will be getting the call to contest for a Midlands title. There is still a lot of work to do but Sowe is on the right track with his team and I look forward to seeing him back in the ring soon.
