Wolverhampton’s Ben Whittaker made a massive statement as he headlined the Boxxer show live on Sky Sports. The show was held at Resorts World Birmingham with a stacked undercard, with the twenty-seven-year-old Whittaker taking on Liam Cameron. Whittaker came into the arena to hear the sound of booing, as the crowd seemed to be very much for his opponent Cameron (34). This did not seem to affect Whittaker, who looked ready for the task in front of him and answered some of the questions from his last contest against Cameron. Both fighters weighed in at twelve stone seven for this light Heavyweight IBF international title over ten rounds with Howard Foster reffing.

Whittaker looked sharp from the first bell and shot out a lightning jab with Cameron pressing forward and looking for an opening. Cameron continued to press and had some joy, but Whittaker was moving well, landing nice counters and winning the round with ease. Whittaker continued to work well behind his jab in the second and was dictating the contest, Cameron continued to press, and it looked like it could be a long night for Whittaker. This all changed when Whittaker unleashed a cracking right hand that wobbled Cameron, Whittaker then jumped on Cameron, landing a barrage of shots over fifteen unanswered, with ref Howard Foster jumping in and stopping the contest one minute fifty-three seconds into the second round.

Whittaker Wins Second Round Stoppage
Dexter’s Thoughts
Statement Made By Whittaker as he dismantled Liam Cameron in two rounds. Whittaker was booed into the ring on a show where he was the home boxer, but he stayed focused on the job at hand. I was one of the many who thought Whittaker needed to do something special here, and he did, silencing the doubters with this stoppage victory. The previous draw was probably the best thing that could have happened to Whittaker, as he has now changed trainer and is with Andy Lee, and looked more professional with less showboating. I hope he keeps some of his showboating, as that separates him from the rest of the bunch. This win has put Whittaker back on track but the light Heavyweight division is one of the best at the moment domestically, let allow at work level. With the likes of Yard Buatsi, Hutchinson, Azeez, Smith, Arthur, and local fighters Shakan Pitters and Troy Jones, to name but a few, Whittaker has a big task ahead of him to get to world level.
