Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker has been given a golden opportunity to showcase his skills on Matchroom promotions Birmingham show at the Utilita Arena on August 19th. ‘The Wolf’ has been handed the task of taking on the unbeaten southpaw Cyrus Pattinson in a ten-round contest for the WBA International welterweight title. This contest will be streamed live on DAZN and is on a stacked undercard of the ‘NXT GEN’ show with Galal Yafai taking on Tommy Frank as the main event. Walker (28) is coming off a defeat after losing to Kane Gardner on points in an eight-round contest in Bolton in March of this year. Walker has an impressive record of eleven wins and one draw out of fourteen fights and has also won the Midlands area Welterweight and contested for the English Welterweight title. His opponent Pattinson (29) from Northumberland has had just six contests but has stopped four of his opponents with three of his fights being over six rounds, one being over eight and two being over ten.
I caught up with Conah and I first asked him how he felt when he was informed of, he had got this fight. He told me “I was over the moon, coming off a loss to get a massive opportunity like this. I couldn’t be happier”. We then chatted about his training and how it was going and had he changed anything for this fight. Walker informed me “Training has been wicked mate; I was in camp already for a different show. So, it just gives us extra time to prepare for Cyrus”. Walker continued “We’ve tweaked a few things as Cyrus is a southpaw, but we have kept the fundamentals the same”. When asked for a prediction he told me with confidence “My prediction is a win for me by any means possible”. Walker finished by saying when asked what’s next if he wins this fight. “When I win, I want to back out with Matchroom on a deal, either defending the title or pushing on for more titles”.
The fight will be at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on the 19th of August on the NXT GEN show with tickets available from Conah Walker or from Matchroom.
Dexter’s Thoughts
This is a great opportunity for Conah Walker against a very dangerous opponent. He may have only had six fights but has stopped four of them and from the looks of his record, Matchroom is ask rushing him up the ranks to bigger fights. But if anyone can upset the apple cart it’s ‘The Wolf’ Conah Walker, Walker has the experience and the skills to asked the Matchroom prospect some serious questions and just to remind people Walker has three stoppages on his record as well. I think Walker has a great chance of winning this and claiming the WBA International title and the ranking that goes with it getting himself a Matchroom contract as well. I have followed Walker's career from the start and know he has got the tools to claim the victory.
