Wilson-Bent says By Stoppage or Unanimous Decision I Win

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

Coventry’s River Wilson-Bent has informed the Column today “If the stoppage comes it comes, if it’s doesn’t then a unanimous point decision for Wilson-Bent”. The twenty nine year old was talking about his newly announced mouth watering contest against the highly rated Birmingham fighter Ryan Kelly. The contest is scheduled for ten three minute rounds and is for the vacant Commonwealth silver Middleweight title. The date of the contest will be Friday 27th October and it will be held at the Holiday Inn Birmingham.

I caught up with Wilson-Bent and my first question was, how did you feel when you were told the new? Wilson-Bent informed me “I've known about the fight for about two to three weeks, me and the team were super happy with the fight”. I then asked him if he will be changing his training for this fight? River told me “I've got a new training team, so a lot of work has been happening behind closed doors”. Rivers new team has Paul Hudson as head coach and Kyle Wish doing his strength and conditioning and he now trains at Red Corner Gym Coventry. My next question for the former Midlands area middleweight champ was how he felt about coming to Birmingham city centre to have this cracking contest? Wilson-Bent informed me “It would be better for me if it was held in Coventry, but the job is going to be the same in any location”. River finished by saying “I always bring a great support to big fights like this. It will be a class night, for my crowd”

Dexter’s Thoughts

My first thought for this contest is, will the Holiday Inn Birmingham be big enough for this contest as both boxers have big followings. Fair play to BcB promotions for getting this fight on one of there shows and keeping it local. When two fighters like these usually go at it especially for titles they end up on the undercard of a big promotion show. This is a straight up fifty, fifty contest, if you put a gun to my head I could not give you the winner. I like both fighters and think both of them are very talented boxers. This could possibly be the fight of the year for the Midlands but both fights also have the potential to end it early. All I know is this is going to be a great night and a great fight with myself sitting firmly on the fence for the outcome.
