Wallsal's Ryan Woolridge took his professional record to twelve without defeat at the Hangar Event Venue Wolverhampton (8.3.25). The twenty four year old southpaw took on Shane Smith (31) from Gloucestershire in a six three minute round contest in the Middleweight division. Woolridge weighed in eleven stone four with Smith coming in eleven stone five with Pete McCormick reffing.

Woolridge used his jab well from the first bell as everything came off it with great backhands and combinations. Smith covered up well and let shots go when he could but Woolridge was in full control. Woolridge continued to use his jab to dictate the first as he landed nice one, twos and combinations in the second round. Smith gain covered up well but a lot of them were getting throw. Woolridge continued to dictate the pace in the third and pressed Smith with some lovely combinations with Smith doing what he could but staying safe.

The southpaw jab from Woolridge was the key to everything in the fourth as Woolridge kept Smith on the end of it landing some nice backhands and combinations. Smith did get a few flurry of shots off but it was Woolridge round. The fifth was another great round for Woolridge as he used his jab to set up everything with Smith having no answer. Woolridge looked to finish the contest strong as he continued to shoot out great combinations and one twos as Smith now looked to see out the round and the final well.

Ref Pete McCormick scored the fight 60 to 54 Woolridge i had it the same.
Dexter’s Thoughts

Great performance by Woolridge who took his record to twelve without defeat. The key to Woolridge’s win was the sharp southpaw jab that dictated the fight and will take him far. After twelve contests I do think it is time for Woolridge to fight for a title at least an area one. There is no doubt of the talent of Woolridge and I can see him getting to at least British title contention and I think he should definitely be contesting for titles. Hopefully BcB Promotions can get him a crack at one very soon and I look forward to seeing Woolridge fight again soon.
